2011 Washington Redskins
With the Donovan McNabb experiment is over in Washington and Rex Grossman is now in competition with John Beck (who is currently injured with a groin strain) for the starting job. Other than that, head coach Mike Shanahan is happy with the way the training camp has started but is disappointed with the injury to his number one draft selection OLB Ryan Kerrigan. The franchise was high on Kerrigan and was confident of his ability. “When we take a look at Ryan [Kerrigan] we felt like we got a football player that can obviously play the outside linebacker position, opposite Brian [Orakpo],” Coach Shanahan said recently. “I think he brings a lot to the table. He plays the run extremely well, obviously a converted defensive end that when you look at him we think he fits into our system extremely well, not only being able to the run, but the pass. Blue-collar player, plays extremely hard, did a lot of great things through his career and we are surely glad he is part of the Redskins.”
Other draft selections have also impressed the coaching staff. Fifth round selection, WR Niles Paul, has been most impressive of their three WR rookies. Fourth round draft pick, RB Roy Helu has the speed to be able to take the number two HB position.
The Redskins should bounce back from their subpar 2010 season and now that Grossman is on solid ground, they should prove stiff competition.
