Previous Seasons

The Washington Redskins are not on a youth movement anymore. The team is looking to turn around their fortunes this season as evidenced by remarks from new Head Coach Mike Shanahan who said that he hated to use the word rebuilding. Based by the acquisitions of eight players who will turn 30 during the season, the team is looking to get back on the winning track now. The signing of former Philadelphia Eagle Donovan McNabb in April is just proof of the pudding.

Season ticket holders can rest assured that the 2010 NFL Season will be an exciting one to watch, but an even better one to see in person. Be sure to get your tickets before there are all gone!

Looking to improve on a .500 record, the Redskins franchise made some major moves to shore up their deficiencies. They picked up one of the best DT’s in the league Albert Haynesworth for a cool 7-year $100 million contract, Paid Buffalo G Derrick Dockery a 5-yr $26-million contract, and shelled out $54-million on a six-year contract for CB DeAngelo Hall.

Look for the Redskins to improve considerably this season and for the team to make a march into the playoffs.

After the retirement of Joe Gibbs, Jim Zorn took the reins to the team brought on former RB coach Sherman Smith as his offensive coordinator. The 08 draft produced 5 offensive players and 5 defensive players the most notable being the # 34 overall pick in the draft WR Devin Thomas.

The Redskins managed to break even under the new coach and finished the year at 8-8, in 4th place in the NFC East and failed to make the playoffs.

In the off-season, the Washington Redskins made a number of moves that they hope will bolster their roster. They went and picked up a number of guys that would help out their struggling offense. The Redskins traded for wide receiver Santana Moss, who will be with the team for the second time in his career. The hopes are that with a big time receiver like Moss on the team that the offense will be able to move the ball through the air. The ‘Skins also went out and picked up wide receiver David Patten, who was formerly with the New England Patriots and is the proud owner of three Super Bowl rings. The team is hoping the Patten can help out the offense on the field with his play and off the field with his experiences of knowing what it takes to win a Super Bowl three times over. The team also picked up free agent center Casey Rabach, who played with the Ravens for the past four seasons. Rabach was one of the linemen that helped Jamal Lewis rush for over 2,000 yards in the 2003 season.

The Redskins also made some upgrades to their defense. They signed linebackers Warrick Holdman and Brian Allen to complete their linebackers corps. These two have a long history of being solid players in the league and they should be able to push the starting linebackers and provide great depth at the position. The final move the ‘Skins made in the off-season was the pick up of free safety Pierson Prioleau. The team is hoping that Prioleau can bring some depth to the free safety position, since their starting free safety Sean Taylor has been having big time on and off the field problems.

In the draft, the Redskins needed to address a few positions and they seemed to meet each one. They had a gaping hole at cornerback opposite of All-Pro Fred Smoot and they filled it with Auburn corner Carlos Rogers. Rogers is a strong, tough cornerback that will get up and jam a receiver and also has the speed to run with them downfield after the jam. The next pick they selected was quarterback Jason Campbell. The ‘Skins were able to make the trade to make that selection, but the only thing about that was that the team might have given up a little bit too much for him. Regardless, the team will be grooming Campbell to be the quarterback of the future. Campbell is a strong-armed signal caller that can move with the best of them; he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds. In the fifth round, the Skins picked up middle linebacker Robert McCune. Experts are expecting him to be a playmaker in the next couple of seasons, but not to accomplish too much this upcoming season.

There’s definitely talent on the 2007 Washington roster–However, their lack of depth will remain a problem this season, and their pass rush continues to be a bit lackluster.  Their coaching is top rated, but their offensive line will need some tweaking in 07-08.  Jason Campbell is a solid QB with a strong arm, and well-thought plays. The receiving core looks good as well, and The Redskins still has Captain Chaos Cooley making big plays. It is a brutal division this season, but look for Washington to rely on - Casey Rabach, Chris Samuels and Randy Thomas - as their core offense.
